The Perfect Cinder Cone

2001 Etna flank eruption: SW-looking aerial view of the 2550 eruptive vents after the end of their activity (9 August 2001). The main cone is about 100 m high, and lava flows have issued from its base in three locations, extending toward the Valle del Bove (foreground) and in the direction of the Rifugio Sapienza (out of view to the upper left).
