XIX Iberian Symposium on Marine Biology Studies

We are pleased to announce that the XIX Iberian Symposium of Marine Biology Studies (SIEBM XIX) will be organized by the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) and will take place in Porto, Portugal, from 5th to 9th September 2016. The symposium with already 40 years of existence will give particular emphasis to the areas historically covered by the SIEBM editions. The scientific program will include sessions in five main areas: (i) Ecology, biodiversity and vulnerable ecosystems; (ii) Global changes, invasive species and conservation; (iii) Oceanography, modelling and ecosystem dynamics; (iv) Fisheries, aquaculture and biotechnology; and (v) Ecotourism, environmental education and science outreach. The congress will be organized with parallel oral sessions and poster exhibitions, and will include several invited plenary lectures made by world renowned marine biology researchers. Registration fees were kept as low as possible to encourage the participation of early career marine scientists and students. PhD students will have the opportunity to compete for awards for best oral and poster presentations. A limited number of student scholarships for participation are also available. Official symposium languages are Portuguese, Spanish and English. However, for scientific dissemination purposes, we suggest the use of English in order to increase the visibility of the presented works. All abstracts presented during the XIX SIEBM will be given a DOI number and will be published in the Frontiers in Marine Science journal. The organizing Committee also reached an agreement with Elsevier to publish the proceedings in a special issue of the Regional Studies in Marine Science journal after a peer-review process. On-line registration and abstracts submission will begin on March 1st 2016. The deadline for abstracts submission will be April 31st 2016.
