Using electronic music technologies in music therapy has been associated traditionally with people who cannot make music with acoustic tools due to complex physical needs. Recent developments in technology, including simple hand held devices, enable us to play, record and listen to music 'on the go'. In particular, technology has a role for people with complex medical needs who experience isolation and loneliness whilst separated from loved ones during treatments which can take many months. This presentation will share research findings illustrating new emergent practices in the use of electronic music technologies to address psychic pain.
