Plant-bacteria-fungi living together

This picture collage shows bacteria and fungi living together on the pappus of dandelion seeds. Interestingly, these seeds are colonized by an abundant microbial community that had never before been photographed and studied. Seeds were stained with Propidium iodide (red)/SYTO9 (green) and analyzed by epi-fluorescence at 10 and 100X.
